What to expect from Sunderland's Hadrian's Tipi ahead of its arrival next week
The festive pop-up will open to the public from 5pm on Friday, October 19, giving visitors to Keel Square the chance to enjoy its fire pits, festoon lighting, seating areas and a selection of Christmas-themed food and drinks.
The tipi is a spin off from the hugely-popular Hadrian’s Tipi in Newcastle and will complement the Christmas offering at the adjacent Keel Square ice rink which will open later in the winter.

Hatch 76, an artisan favourite well recognised for their duck fries and wraps, will feature alongside Quaff Box, serving cocktails, Al Baik serving a selection of Lebanese food and the Christmas favourite, authentic German swing grill serving festive bratwurst.
Hadrian’s Tipi is the brainchild of Danieli Holdings Group who also run new container village, Stack, in Newcastle.
Kevin Walker, operations director for Danieli Holdings, said: “We are delighted to set up camp in Keel Square and be part of the Christmas celebrations in the city. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this unique experience. The tipi will be open from 10am – 1am open every day (except Christmas day).”
The tipi was inspired by one of the five ‘good’ emperors, Hadrian, a Roman who enjoyed travelling and sampling the best that countries could offer. On the road, the Romans lived in tipi-like tents in a bustling environment complete with exotic drinks, world foods and the best beers.
The family friendly tipi is aimed at people of all ages, as well as pets.
