Northumbria Police appeal for dashcam footage after pensioner dies following collision at Silverlink

Northumbria Police has issued the appeal in order to establish information around the events that directly led to the incident, which left two elderly people requiring urgent care.
At around 2.25pm on Thursday, May 27, police received a report concerning a four-vehicle collision on the A19 southbound at Silverlink.

Hide AdEmergency services attended the scene and two occupants in one vehicle – a man and woman, both in their seventies – were taken to hospital. The woman has since been discharged, however the man was confirmed dead by police at 3.39pm on Saturday, May 29.
Police described it as a ‘serious collision’ and have appeal for anyone with dashcam footage in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.
“Sadly the male pensioner has now died from his injuries,” a Northumbria Police spokesperson said just over 48 hours after the collision.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision and Northumbria Police is now appealing for anyone who was driving in the area to come forward and assist with the probe.

Hide Ad“This was a serious collision that resulted in an elderly couple both being taken to hospital,” said Sergeant Michael Parnaby, of the force’s Motor Patrols Department.
“We are committed to finding out what happened immediately before the collision happened – and are now asking for your help.
“This happened on a very busy road at a busy time in the afternoon, so we believe somebody may have witnessed the crash – or may have dash cam footage that can assist our investigation.”
Following the news of the elderly man’s death, a police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with his family at this awful time and they are being supported by specialist officers.
