Super slimmer boxes her way to better health
Jayne Askew, 30, from Fulwell has lost eight stone in as many months after the death of her grandma from diabetes.
Speaking about the death of her grandma Jean Askew, 83, she said: “She died last December and had diabetes, and the last thing she said to me was ‘I don’t want you to end up like me’. I promised her I would lose weight over the years, but I’d always brushed it off before.”

Hide AdJayne started watching what she was eating and attending Fitness 2000 in Roker and found a particular passion for boxing.
With every boxercise class and cardio session, the pounds began to drop off, with Jayne now being able to ditch her size 24 clothes for a size 12.
She said: “I joined a gym a couple of years ago, but never stuck to it. This time I really did and I think it’s what my grandma said to me that pushed me through.
“I feel so much healthier and energetic, I actually look forward to going to the gym now and I never miss out. I’ve changed my diet too. I just used to eat rubbish but now I eat chicken and vegetables.”

“But the biggest change we have all seen in her is her confidence, she’s in the gym all the time and she often does double sessions, she lifts weight and then goes on to do the boxing classes.
“No matter her work commitments or her shift patterns at work, she always finds the time to train.”
•Les is hoping to help more people achieve their weight goals and is offering ten people a chance to win six months’ free gym membership with a training
