Pictures show car overturned on street after driver 'said he'd call his dad and ran off' following crash

Gill Crescent in Fence Houses was closed for several hours yesterday evening, Friday, February 19, after the incident.
A Durham Constabulary spokesman confirmed that a silver Ford Focus had overturned after colliding with a telegraph pole at around 4.30pm and the driver had left the scene.

Hide AdOne local resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “The noise that came from the crash was ridiculous, it genuinely sounded like someone was coming through the front door.
"He crawled out of the top of the car, told everyone he was going to ring his dad then did a runner.”
The North East Ambulance Service was initially called to the scene but was stood down before a vehicle had even been dispatched when it was clear that no-one had been hurt in the incident.
The road, which links the village to Bournmoor and Chester-le-Street, was closed for several hours while the car was removed and bus operator Go North East was forced to divert services 4 and 71 in the area.

Hide AdThe firm Tweeted shortly before 9.30pm last night that the road had reopened and services had been able to return to normal.
Police are now looking to speak to the driver of the Ford Focus and anyone who has any information can contact Durham Constabulary in the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 315 of Friday, February 19.
