Sunderland man jailed after flouting court order by contacting woman

Lewis Britton has admitted breaching a restraining order imposed nearly five years ago by contacting the woman on January 16.
Sunderland magistrates decided to jail him for nine weeks after judging the offence to be “so serious because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders”.

Hide AdThey said the breach was “aggravated by the defendant’s record of previous offending”.
Britton, 30, of Leechmere Road, Grangetown, Sunderland, was also banned from contacting her either directly or indirectly for a five-year period ending on January 26, 2026.
He is additionally barred from visiting a named city street and any address where he knows or believes her to be.
Britton, who admitted his guilt after initially pleading not guilty, was ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge at a rate of £5 per week from the start of April.
