From Harold Shipman to the Yorkshire Ripper, here are some of the jail’s most infamous inmates past and present.
1. Stephen Unwin
Unwin and co-accused William McFall were convicted of the murder of young mum Quyen Ngoc Nguyen in March 2018.
Her badly burned remains, which could only be identified through dental records, were found face down on the back seat of her Audi A4, which had been engulfed in 30-foot flames during a fire that started when she was still "just" alive.
Unwin, 40, who was also convicted of rape, had met McFall while the pair were serving time at HMP Swaleside in Kent for previous, separate murders.
He had broken into the Houghton home of 73-year-old cancer suffer Jack Greenwell on Christmas Day 1998 and hit him with a camera then stabbed him in the chest.

2. Harold Shipman
Believed to be the most prolific serial killer in history, Dr Harold Shipman was a GP in Greater Manchester.
He was convicted in January 2000 of murdering of 15 patients under his care, though it is believed the total number of victims could be as high as 250. Most of his victims were elderly women, though there was "significant suspicion" he had killed patients as young as four.

3. Peter Chapman
Chapman was dubbed 'The Facebook Killer' for the murder of 17-year-old Ashleigh Hall in County Durham in October 2009 after befriending her on the social networking site. Photo: Durham Police
4. Delroy Grant
Dubbed the 'Night Stalker' Grant was one of the most prolific and depraved sex attackers in British history.
The 53-year-old rapist was found guilty of preying on the elderly in a campaign of perverted terror lasting 17 years.
Former minicab driver Grant was responsible for some of the most "awful and disturbing crimes" ever investigated at Scotland Yard, senior detectives said.
