In time for pubs being able to reopen for business on July 4, The Palm in Hylton Riverside revealed a new bar area, Palm Beach.

General manager Pete Skelton said business is starting to pick up at the bar as consumer confidence returns with lockdown easing.
"We had a monster Saturday and Sunday last weekend. We have a Sunday Sundown, with happy hour running from 4pm to 8pm, and that’s proved really popular. The pizzas are also flying out and are doing really well.” he explained.
"The outdoor area is ideal for social distancing, but it’s also just a really nice place to be. It’s a little sun-trap and there’s nothing else like it in the city.”

Palm Beach is in addition to the other bars on site, Liberty Brown, Wildernest, Tropicuba and Pineapple Cove, which are open for indoor seating with new social distancing measures in place.
Owners The Apartment Group have also launched a new beach bar, Jesmond Beach Box, at their Holy Hobo bar in Newcastle which is also proving popular with people as they get used to being able to visit bars and restaurants once more.
Pete added: “We’ve actually had some great feedback. Some people have said they were nervous at first, but we’ve had emails from people thanking us for the social distancing measures we’ve put in place, saying it made them feel more comfortable.”
